Mustang Free River - Kids
The problem with a lot of barefoot shoes is that your feet love them… but then you look in the mirror and think: “yes, very comfortable, but I wouldn’t even wear them to take the rubbish out”.
The Mustang Free Detroit are exactly the opposite. They look like retro sneakers you’d buy simply because you like them. Except you also get a wide toe box, zero drop and an insulating insole that helps keep the cold from the ground well away from your feet.
And they come with two sets of laces, flat and round. Because if you’re going to wear them all the time, you might as well be the one who decides how they look.
The Mustang Free Detroit are retro-style men's barefoot sneakers designed for anyone who wants more room for their toes and zero drop without wearing footwear that looks technical. Their silhouette recalls classic street sneakers, with a low profile, layered panels and a visually more substantial construction.
They also feature an insulating insole that helps reduce the transfer of cold from the ground to your feet. A particularly useful detail during autumn and winter, when a barefoot sole keeps the foot closer to the ground and that extra insulation can make a noticeable difference in everyday wear.
The result is a pair of men's barefoot sneakers for autumn and winter with a conventional, easy-to-match look while retaining some of the essential characteristics of barefoot footwear: a wide toe box, zero drop and a shape that gives the foot greater freedom.
There's a fairly common problem when you start looking for barefoot footwear: you find the shape you want for your feet, but you don't always find the look you want on your feet.
The Mustang Free Detroit take a different route. Their design starts with a recognisable urban sneaker, with layered panels, contrasting textures and a retro aesthetic that works particularly well with jeans, chinos, cargo trousers or casual clothing.
At first glance, they look like casual sneakers. The important difference lies in the way the shape has been designed. At the front, your toes have more room to position themselves without being compressed inside a progressively narrower toe box. Underfoot, the zero drop keeps the heel and forefoot at the same height.
This makes the Detroit a particularly interesting option as men's barefoot sneakers for everyday wear. For heading out in the morning without thinking too much about what you're wearing. For walking around the city. For working in casual environments. For travelling. Or for those days when you know you'll be wearing the same footwear for many hours.
Wanting to feel the ground is one thing. Wanting to feel its cold temperature all morning is something else entirely.
That's why one of the most interesting details of the Mustang Free Detroit is their insulating insole against cold coming from the ground. It is designed to create an additional barrier between the foot and the surface you're walking on, helping to reduce how directly the cold is transferred to your feet.
This makes particular sense in barefoot sneakers for autumn and winter. You keep the philosophy of a flat base and a wide shape, but gain an additional feature designed to make them more pleasant to wear when temperatures drop.
It doesn't turn the Detroit into hiking boots or technical winter footwear. That's not their purpose either. The interesting part is that they remain urban sneakers you can wear every day, but with a detail specifically designed for those months when the ground is no longer exactly warm.
A small detail can make quite a difference to the way a sneaker looks. That's why the Mustang Free Detroit include two different pairs of laces: one flat and one round.
You can choose whichever you prefer or swap them depending on the look you want. The flat laces reinforce that more classic urban sneaker aesthetic, while the round laces give the same model a different finish.
It doesn't change how the sneaker works. It changes how you see it. And on a model designed to be worn often and combined with different outfits, having that option is a welcome extra.
The upper of the Mustang Free Detroit combines PU and nylon textile, creating the mix of panels and textures that defines much of their appearance. The interior uses polyester textile for both the lining and the insole, while the sole is made from TR, a thermoplastic rubber.
The model also features a fully vegan formulation across its materials, adhesives and finishes, with PETA-Approved certification according to Mustang's technical information. A particularly relevant detail if, as well as looking for barefoot footwear, you prefer to avoid materials of animal origin.
Their concept is particularly suited to men looking for a casual, urban barefoot sneaker for autumn and winter that can become one of those pairs you reach for regularly. You don't need to save them for walking, training or a specific activity. Their natural territory is much simpler: everyday life.
And that's also where it's worth being clear about their limits. If you're looking for footwear specifically for technical hiking, mountains or sports training, the Detroit aren't designed for that purpose. Their strength lies elsewhere: urban use, retro styling, an insulating insole and barefoot features in an easy-to-wear sneaker.
They're a particularly good choice if you're coming from conventional footwear and want to move into barefoot without completely changing the way you dress. They're also a good fit if you already wear barefoot shoes but have been missing a sneaker with a little more presence, pronounced panels and an aesthetic inspired by classic urban sneakers.
The combination of a wide toe box, zero drop, insulating insole, vegan design and casual styling makes them particularly suitable for the cooler months, for work, walking around the city, travelling or simply having a pair of sneakers you can wear again and again without thinking too much about what to pair them with.
If, on the other hand, you're looking for the lightest and most visually minimalist barefoot footwear possible, there are probably other designs that better match that idea. The Detroit have a different intention: to look like the sneakers you've always worn without forcing your feet to behave as if they were inside the sneakers you've always worn.
To find your size, the best option is to measure your foot and click on the ‘Check your size here’ link that you will find below the size selector.
If you are between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger one for a more relaxed and natural fit. Your toes should have enough room to move and spread freely.
And if you don't get it right the first time, don't worry: you can easily change the size. The process is quick and free if you activate the €1.99 exchange insurance (valid for mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands).

Materials: to clean the Mustang Free Detroit, first remove dust and surface dirt with a soft brush or dry cloth. On the PU areas, you can use a slightly damp cloth, taking care not to soak the material. Clean the textile sections gently and only where needed. We do not recommend using a washing machine or tumble dryer. Allow the footwear to air dry away from direct heat sources.
Care products: you can use specific footwear cleaning and maintenance products suitable for synthetic and textile materials. You'll find different options in our section of products for the care and maintenance of barefoot footwear.
