The mountain is not always dry. And you are not always going to wait until it is.
The Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP are made to keep going when rain, mud and wet trails show up. A waterproof XeroTex™ membrane, rock protection and 3.5 mm lugs give you extra confidence without turning your feet into two rigid blocks.
You still get what really matters: zero drop, a wide toe box, flexibility and freedom of movement.
Because keeping water out is good. Still feeling the mountain is better.
Waterproof barefoot trail running shoes for men with rock protection
The Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP are waterproof barefoot trail running shoes for men, designed for running, walking and hiking in the mountains when the terrain brings not only rocks, roots and uneven ground, but also rain, mud and moisture.
They keep the barefoot philosophy of the Mesa Summit, with 0 drop, a wide anatomical toe box and a 10 mm sole thickness without the insole, while adding one fundamental difference: a waterproof XeroTex™ membrane designed to help keep water out during your mountain outings.
They also feature removable insoles, so you can wear them with the insoles in place or take them out if you prefer a more direct feeling underfoot.
The protection does not stop with water. The Mesa Summit WP also feature an ESS rock protection layer strategically positioned in the areas of greatest impact to reduce pressure from rocks and roots without turning the shoe into a rigid structure.
That makes them especially suitable if you are looking for waterproof barefoot shoes for trail running, hiking or mountain use and still want to feel the terrain when conditions are far from perfect.
XeroTex™ membrane for when rain and mud show up
Some routes start on dry ground.
And finish as a completely different story.
Wet grass. A muddy trail. A downpour halfway through the route. Wet snow higher up the mountain.
That is where the main difference between the Mesa Summit and the Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP Waterproof comes in.
This version features a waterproof XeroTex™ membrane designed to help keep water out and protect your feet when you run or walk in wet conditions.
The membrane is also combined with a lining that helps manage moisture, aiming to balance waterproof protection with comfort during activity.
There is also a knit collar around the ankle that helps limit the entry of mud, small stones, dirt, snow and other trail debris.
It does not turn the Mesa Summit WP into a heavy hiking boot.
It turns them into a trail shoe designed for those days when checking the weather forecast should not decide whether you go out or stay home.
Mountain protection without giving up the barefoot feel
Making a mountain shoe waterproof is relatively easy.
The difficult part is doing it without making your foot feel trapped inside a rigid structure.
The Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP maintain a flexible construction that allows the foot to adapt to the terrain while running and walking.
Their ESS protection is integrated into the highest-impact areas to protect the sole of the foot from rocks, roots and uneven ground without placing a rigid plate underneath the entire foot.
The sole measures 10 mm thick without the removable insole. A configuration that adds protection for natural terrain without completely isolating the sensations coming from the ground.
The outsole also features 3.5 mm lugs designed to improve traction away from asphalt.
Trails.
Forest tracks.
Wet paths.
Rocky terrain.
Mountain areas where you need more grip and protection than a thin urban barefoot shoe can offer, but still want your foot to work naturally.
More secure hold when the terrain stops being flat
A wide toe box is of little use in the mountains if your foot slides around inside the shoe on every descent.
That is why the Mesa Summit WP combine an anatomically shaped toe box, giving the toes room to spread, with a more secure hold around the midfoot and heel.
The internal Xero Lockdown system works with the lacing system to keep the foot more securely in place when you encounter slopes, changes of direction and uneven foot placements.
Your toes keep their space.
Your midfoot stays more controlled.
And the shoe can still flex throughout your stride.
An especially useful combination for mountain running in waterproof barefoot shoes, where freedom of movement, stability and weather protection all need to work together in the same shoe.
An upper prepared for moisture, mud and demanding terrain
The upper uses an abrasion-resistant polyester mesh designed to help keep out small trail debris, reinforced with a 3D-printed structure.
This reinforcement adds structure where it is most needed without resorting to an upper that feels excessively heavy or bulky.
On this WP version, the construction is completed by the waterproof XeroTex™ membrane and the knit collar around the ankle.
The result has a very clear purpose: to handle trail running and hiking in rain, mud, moisture or even snowy areas without forcing you into a conventional mountain boot.
The Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP are not limited to running. They also make sense for fast hikes, excursions, forest tracks, outdoor training and mountain outings in autumn and winter.
Especially when you already know the trail may be wet before you even leave home.
Who the Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP are for
They are an especially interesting choice if you already wear barefoot footwear and are looking for waterproof barefoot mountain shoes for men with protection from rocks, roots, water and mud.
They also work well if you alternate between trail running, hiking and outdoor training throughout the year and do not want to leave your barefoot shoes at home simply because it has rained.
The removable insoles also allow you to slightly adjust the underfoot feel according to your preferences.
Compared with the standard Mesa Summit, the Mesa Summit WP make particular sense for wet terrain, rainy seasons and autumn or winter outings. If you do almost all your routes in dry weather and prioritise ventilation above all else, the non-membrane version may suit you better.
And if you are looking for high cushioning, an elevated heel or a shoe that isolates you as much as possible from ground feedback, you are probably looking for a different type of footwear.
Likewise, if you are moving directly from conventional shoes with a lot of drop, cushioning and structure, a gradual transition to barefoot footwear is advisable. The Mesa Summit WP maintain 0 mm drop and allow the foot to play a much more active role while walking and running.
Waterproof for the mountains, but still unmistakably Xero Shoes
The strength of the Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP is not simply that they add a waterproof membrane to a trail shoe.
It is that they do so without losing sight of why you chose barefoot footwear in the first place.
10 mm sole without the insole, ESS rock protection, 3.5 mm lugs, waterproof XeroTex™ membrane, knit collar, secure fit and front space for the toes.
They also include a removable insole that allows you to adjust the feel underfoot according to your preferences.
All while maintaining the principles you expect when choosing barefoot shoes: zero drop, flexibility, an anatomical toe box and freedom for the foot to move.
Because when the asphalt ends, a dry trail does not always begin.
And those are exactly the days the Mesa Summit WP are made for.
