Just because it has rained does not mean you have to change your plans.
The Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP Women are made to keep going when mud, wet trails and tougher mountain conditions appear. A waterproof XeroTex™ membrane, rock protection and 3.5 mm lugs give you confidence without taking away your freedom.
They are still barefoot where it matters: zero drop, a wide toe box, flexibility and room for your feet to move.
Because the mountains are not only there to be enjoyed in good weather.
Waterproof barefoot trail running shoes for women that do not wait for the mountain to dry
The Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP Women are waterproof barefoot shoes for trail running, hiking and mountain use, designed to keep you walking or running when rain, mud, wet trails and those conditions that make conventional summer shoes start to fall short appear.
They keep everything you expect from Xero Shoes: zero drop, a wide anatomical toe box, flexibility and freedom of movement. But they add a waterproof XeroTex™ membrane that helps keep water out when the terrain starts getting more demanding.
There is also an important difference underfoot.
The Mesa Summit WP feature a 10 mm sole thickness without the removable insole, 3.5 mm lugs for improved traction and an ESS rock protection layer positioned in the areas that receive the greatest impact.
In other words: more protection for the mountains, without turning them into heavy, rigid shoes that isolate you from the terrain.
That is exactly where they make sense.
If you are looking for waterproof barefoot shoes for women that you can use on trails, routes, forest tracks and trail outings when the weather stops cooperating, the Mesa Summit WP are designed for precisely that.
Waterproof protection for the days when the trail changes halfway through the route
You do not always leave home in the middle of a storm.
Sometimes the problem appears later.
The trail is still damp from the night before. Vegetation wets your shoes with every step. You cross a muddy section. It starts raining when you still have several kilometres ahead.
The waterproof XeroTex™ membrane of the Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP is designed precisely for these situations.
It helps prevent water from entering so you can continue across wet terrain without every puddle or stretch of wet grass soaking the inside of the shoe.
They also feature a knit collar around the ankle that helps limit the entry of dirt, small stones, mud, trail debris and even snow.
All of this makes them especially interesting for barefoot hiking in autumn and winter, trail running in rainy areas or simply for anyone who wants a mountain shoe that does not depend on always finding dry ground.
They are not intended to replace a high-mountain boot.
Their purpose is different.
To offer water protection in a shoe that is much lighter, more flexible and closer to the barefoot feel.
A sole prepared for rocks without stopping you from feeling the terrain
There is a difference between feeling the ground and suffering it.
On asphalt or in the city, you can afford to use extremely thin soles.
In the mountains, when sharp stones, roots, uneven ground and unpredictable foot placements appear, having a little more protection starts to make a lot of sense.
The Mesa Summit WP use a 10 mm sole without the insole, together with an ESS rock protection layer positioned in the highest-impact areas.
Its job is to distribute pressure from rocks and hard elements of the terrain more effectively without relying on a completely rigid plate that prevents the foot from flexing.
This allows you to keep one of the most interesting characteristics of barefoot mountain shoes: receiving information from the ground and adapting your stride to what is underneath you.
That protection is combined with 3.5 mm lugs that increase grip on dirt, forest tracks and trails.
You do not need the same sole for walking along a pavement as you do for descending a wet path full of roots.
And the Mesa Summit WP are designed with the second situation in mind.
Room for your toes and support where you actually need it
In a barefoot shoe, your toes need space.
In a mountain shoe, you also need the rest of your foot to stay controlled.
The Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP combine a wide anatomical toe box with a fit system designed to secure the midfoot and heel in particular.
The internal Xero Lockdown system works together with the laces to improve foot hold when slopes, descents and quick changes in foot placement appear.
This is especially important in the mountains.
Because a shoe can have plenty of front space, but if your foot is constantly sliding around inside it on every descent, that space stops being an advantage.
The idea here is different.
Freedom at the front. Support where it matters.
Your toes can spread and take part in each foot strike, while the midfoot and heel remain better controlled during lateral movements and terrain changes.
A shoe for running, walking and spending long hours away from asphalt
Although their construction makes them suitable for barefoot trail running, the Mesa Summit WP do not have to be reserved only for running.
They also work very well for hiking routes, fast walks, forest track excursions, nature-focused trips and outdoor activities where an urban shoe offers too little grip and a conventional boot may be excessive.
The insole is removable, which also allows you to slightly change the underfoot feel.
You can wear them with the full setup when you want a little more material between your foot and the ground, or remove the insole if you prefer an even more direct feel.
This versatility makes a lot of sense if you alternate between different activities.
One day you can go running on trails.
Another day you can do a route lasting several hours.
And another you may simply find a muddy trail after several days of rain.
The shoe does not change.
The terrain does.
Who the Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP Women are for
The Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP make particular sense for women who already wear barefoot footwear and want to move into a waterproof barefoot mountain shoe with a little more protection underfoot.
They also fit well if you hike throughout much of the year, run on trails or live in an area where moisture and rain are a regular part of your outings.
Compared with urban barefoot shoes, they provide more grip, rock protection and a construction prepared for much more uneven terrain.
Compared with the Mesa Summit without a membrane, the main difference lies in the type of conditions they are designed for.
If your routes are usually in dry weather and maximum ventilation is your absolute priority, the non-membrane version may suit you better.
If you go out in autumn, winter, after several rainy days or simply want to be prepared for wet trails, the WP version adds water protection that significantly changes how the model can be used.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a shoe with a lot of cushioning, an elevated heel or a very rigid structure that limits foot movement, this is probably not the model that best fits what you need.
And if you are coming from conventional footwear with a lot of drop and cushioning, the transition should be gradual.
The Mesa Summit WP maintain a true barefoot approach.
Your foot works.
And that requires adaptation.
When you want protection from water but do not want to stop feeling where you step
That is the balance the Xero Shoes Mesa Summit WP Women aim for.
Not turning a barefoot shoe into a rigid boot simply because the ground is wet.
Waterproof XeroTex™ membrane, zero drop, anatomical toe box, 10 mm sole without the insole, 3.5 mm lugs, ESS rock protection, Xero Lockdown system and removable insole.
Every element has a specific purpose.
Water stays out.
Rocks become less of a problem.
Your foot keeps enough room to move.
And you can keep adding kilometres when the trail stops looking anything like a pavement.
Because the mountain does not need to be dry for you to go out and enjoy it.
