My problem is that I have them as water balloons

My problem is that I have them as water balloons

A lot of people have been passing by the shop over Easter week.

And they tell me that there is still a long way to go.

With the passing of time I have lost perspective. I think everyone knows that most foot problems are caused by footwear.

But when people like Sebastian come to me and tell me he has a problem because his feet are wide, I realise that the message I'm trying to get across is not getting through.

And that the reality is even worse, because there are people suffering without knowing that their pain has a solution, sometimes as quick as changing their shoes.

I tell you about Sebastián.

He arrives at the shop with his wife and daughters.

However, he doesn't speak, his wife does.

He stood in a corner, apart, a bit sad, as if something was wrong with him or he was in pain.

It seemed as if he was there out of obligation, and his face was that one that says: 'let's see if this finish quick and I'll go home now'.

After a while where she's the only one talking, he gets involved and chooses one of the shoes.

When I approached him to try them on, he blurted out as if he were confessing:

'My feet hurt. Very much so. I can't stand it and I have circulation problems because I have wide feet. It's as if my feet were balloons filled with water'. -he says, making a pained face.

He's wearing a pair of white Nike cushioned shoes, with fabric tighter than Obregon's face. A spanish presenter.

Inside the Nike, his feet look like two sausages.

'Have you seen what your feet look like' -I say.

'They're so cramped in there that they have no movement at all: no movement of the muscles, no movement of the toes...

The shoes you're wearing don't let the blood flow, it's as if you were stepping on a hose.'

When he tries on the shoe he says:

'Oh, it's like I'm barefoot', and his face goes from suffering to relief.

By giving space, his toes could move freely (activating his muscles), getting the circulation flowing again and not accumulating in his feet and ankles like 'water balloons'.

This limited his ability to live a normal life with his wife and daughters. Even taking a short walk seemed like a superhuman effort.

So much for Sebastian.

A final message.

If you have wide feet, where is the problem?

In your feet or in the shoes you buy?

And.

Why are there no such problems in your hands?

If your gloves are too tight, you wear bigger gloves, you don't doubt it, do you?

Do the same with your feet.

Your health starts with them.

Antonio Caballo.

Pd. The shoes that Sebastián chose:

Shoes for normal feet:

  • Wide.
  • Without reinforcements.
  • Flexible.
  • Without heel.

Like your feet.
