What I'm going to tell you about a podiatrist’s relative is quite something.
You'll see.
Two years ago, a customer walked into the store with two different orthotic insoles:
One for everyday footwear, another for sports shoes.
Two insoles that were very different from each other, because each shoe had its own rigidity and its own way of forcing the foot to work.
So far, nothing new.
The interesting part came later.
A few days after that visit, we received a call from a podiatrist who was a relative of the client.
She demanded explanations, because she said we had told him to stop using the insoles.
Come on.
From the beginning, I've had three things very clear.
Three things I've always passed on to my clients, friends and colleagues at ZaMi:
First. Switch to footwear that is wide, flexible, flat and lets your foot move. And if you use insoles, use them inside this footwear.
Second. Try spending short periods without them. At home, at the office, on a relaxed walk. If it goes well, increase the time. If not, adjust. Trial and error. Your body decides.
Third. Spend time barefoot. As much as you can and more. There’s no better exercise or therapy for your feet. But as before, adjust. Trial and error. Your body decides.
Anyway, the call ended there, nothing more.
And now comes the interesting part.
Two years later, the same customer walks in and says:
I want the same brand I bought, but in a boot for the cold.
And before I could say anything, he started telling me what had happened.
Turns out that when he bought his barefoot shoes, he used them for a while together with the insoles.
And then he started trying without them at home.
Little by little.
No rush.
The result?
One day he realized nothing hurt.
And the next day, same thing.
And that when he used the insoles, it actually seemed to hurt.
He took both pairs, tied them together with a rubber band and left them on a shelf.
And there they’ve been for two years. Unused.
He says the pain has disappeared “in an incredible way”.
He doesn’t know why, but that’s how it is.
And it makes total sense.
When you allow your foot to do what it’s designed to do, things happen.
Good and logical things.
It's not magic, it's common sense.
It's not always immediate, but it very rarely fails.
Yavestruz.
So, if you're in a similar situation…
If you use insoles.
If you've had discomfort for years.
If you have a drawer full of remedies that don’t solve anything…
Start with the basics:
Put your feet in footwear that lets them do their job.
And if you want to do it with a boot for everyday use, comfortable, warm, flexible and designed to help your foot recover its natural function, take a look at this one from Mustang:
Try them. Give them a few days and let me know.
