What I overheard in a bar about kneeling and what nobody is saying

Posted on1 Month ago by 1688

Today you’re going to see something that happens every day and that, in a few years, could happen to you.

You’ll see.

I’m in a neighborhood bar.
The kind that’s always been there.
Background noise.

Strong coffee.

Table next to me.

Three women.

Well into their seventies.

Having breakfast.

Laughing.

And suddenly, one says:

- I’ve already been given a date for my knee surgery.
- Well, I’m still waiting for them to call me.

And then a name comes up.

- Do you remember Dolores?
- She had surgery…
- Yes…
- It didn’t go well.
- She limps.

Silence falls.

- Well, when it’s our turn, let’s hope they give us a little motor, one of them says.

And they all laugh.

And while they talk, I can’t stop looking under the table.

Because everything is there.

Different shoes.
One prettier.
Another more comfortable.

And another more dressed up.

But all with the same thing.

Heel.
Thick sole.
And in the front, narrow.
Like a funnel.

Toes squeezed.
No space.
No movement.

Coincidence?

Ostrich mindset.

But of course, this doesn’t start at 70.

It starts much earlier.

It starts when you choose a shoe that looks nice, but after 30 minutes you’re already thinking about taking it off.

It starts when you notice your toes overlapping.

It starts when you normalize that when you get home, the first thing you do isn’t say hello, it’s take your shoes off.

And nothing happens.

One day, nothing happens.

Not two.

Not a hundred.

But try adding up years.

Years squeezing your toes.

Years with your heel elevated.

Years without letting your foot do its job.

And the foot, which isn’t stupid, adapts.

It becomes stiffer.
Clumsier.
Weaker.

And when it stops doing its job.

Someone else has to do it.

And that someone is the knee.

That’s why the conversation in the bar doesn’t surprise me.

It makes sense.

Because it’s easy to think it’s age.

That it’s normal.

That it happens to everyone.

But no.

It’s not normal to end up like that.

It’s common.

Which is not the same.

Now here comes the important part.

This isn’t about them.

It’s about how you want to get there.

You can keep going the same way.
Or you can start giving your feet what they need.

And you can still dress well.

Start here:

- Shoes to look good without suffering

It’s not just a shoe.

It’s how you end your day.

And over time… how you end up.

The next day, they go back to the original price.
