How knee pain has more to do with your shoes than your age

How knee pain has more to do with your shoes than your age

If your knees hurt, this matters to you.

A lot.

More than you think.

Because you might be making the same mistake. And the worst part is… you don’t even know it.

Let me tell you.

It was last Monday, on a terrace, while I was drinking the coffee that was bringing me back to life.

And then he appears.
Slowly walking down the ramp at the door.

Little glass of anise in hand.

My table was the closest to the door of the bar. He asks for permission and drops into the chair next to me.

He sighs heavily.

The entrance to the terrace has a small ramp for strollers. Short, not even a meter long.

But watching him go down it was like watching a mountaineer on his last breath.

He grabs his knee, frowns, and says as he lights a cigarette:

- This slope is steep, no kidding…

He said it with a face full of pain.

And maybe it was his age.

Or the anise.

Or the cigarette.

Probably all of it played a part.

But when I looked at his feet, it was obvious.

He was wearing sneakers that at first glance looked comfortable, one of those with an English name and textbook marketing.

But if you looked closely… it was a prison with laces.

Strechas.

His toes were bunched up like they were braiding themselves.

And without space for your toes to spread, it's really hard to have stability.
And what his knee wanted most was just that: stability.

In other words:
If your feet aren’t the stable base your body needs, everything above them is as fragile as a house of cards.
A little puff of air and it all collapses.

Just like that man and his Strechas sneakers.

And I’m telling you this because nowadays everyone is jumping on the barefoot bandwagon.

Everyone wants to sell you a pair, even if they haven’t the slightest idea what they’re actually selling.

Barefoot at Aldi, barefoot at Lidl… even at Zara.

Everything is “barefoot” now. Everything is “natural.”
Everything promises strong feet, a straight spine, and a deep connection to Mother Earth.

Yavestruz — most of those shoes are designed by people who’ve never felt a stone under their metatarsals.

They make things “inspired” by barefoot, but in the end they’re neither one thing nor the other.

Real barefoot footwear is not a trend.

It’s a tool. And like any tool, if it’s poorly made, it can do you more harm than good.

Alright.

Summer.

Sandals.

Barefoot.

So your toes can spread.
So your feet can actually feel the ground.
And so your knees can finally get the stability they’re missing when you wear Strechas.
