Merrell Trail Glove 8 vs 7 comparison: what really changes

Posted on2 Weeks ago by 2959

I’ve spent the last few weeks testing both shoes.

I went out wearing one pair and carrying the other in my backpack.

I even got a few looks when I wore the Merrell Trail Glove 8 on my left foot and the 7 on my right.

Yes, I looked like a weird guy. But it’s the only way to know the exact difference between both shoes.

Brand marketing is expert at telling you they’ve “revolutionized the concept” when sometimes they’ve only changed the laces.

By the way, they changed those too. On the Trail Glove 8 they’re flat, and on the 7 they’re semi-flat. Neither round nor fully flat.

If you want to know whether your toes will keep suffering or if Merrell has finally listened to those of us who missed the older versions, stay here.

This is what my feet felt while you were deciding what to buy.

Quick verdict (for those in a hurry)

  • Choose the Merrell Trail Glove 8 if: You want more toe space, better wet grip, and a more wrapped fit without pressure.
  • Choose the Merrell Trail Glove 7 if: You have a narrower foot or prefer a snugger fit. It’s still a reliable option for general use.

The truth in the numbers (technical table)

Specification Merrell Trail Glove 8 Merrell Trail Glove 7 What does it mean for you?
Last (Toe Box) Wide and anatomical More fitted The 8 gives your toes more room. The 7 may suit you better if you have narrow feet or like a snugger fit.
Weight (Size 42) 220 g 245 g The 8 is slightly lighter. Not decisive, but noticeable on long outings.
Outsole Vibram® TC5+ Vibram® EcoStep The 8 improves grip on wet ground. The 7 performs well on dry ground and more general use.
